Welcome!

My name is Helen Jett. I've thought about starting a blog before, but I've always had trouble getting it "out there" on the vast internet. Chances are, you're from Reedsy or All Poetry if you're reading this now. But no matter who you are, or how you stumbled upon my blog; welcome! I thought I'd start out this whole blog thing just by telling you a little bit about myself.

I'm a teenager ( no, I'm not going to tell you my exact age; this is the internet for crying out loud) who started this blog in part with the goal of reaching other teens living through the pandemic. I hope that this blog will be something that you might find your way back to on more than one occasion. Really, this blog is going to be a bit of a hodgepodge ( love that word) of photos, personal posts, organization tips, writing ideas, and who knows what else. Hopefully, you'll find some inspiration from my words but if not... that's okay. :)

I remember writing a poem once in school about "Things that I Couldn't Live Without." I thought it was an excellent way to reflect on the little things in life that make me who I am; the things I love to do. The words below are a variation on that idea.

I live for

long walks in the woods.

The pounding rhythm of rain on the roof.

Thick green grass.

The color blue.

Glass jars.

The ocean at sunset.

Apples.

Vanilla

Heavy brown envelopes

Checkered tablecloths

Ballet

Inking pens

Notebooks

Spidery handwriting

Scotch tape

Music

Pebbles

Paint

Thin copper wire

The smell of old books

The quietude of streams

Pine trees

My friends

My family

That's not all, there are so many things in my day-to-day life that really make life worth living. But I like to sometimes just sit down with a crisp blank page and a pencil and write down just the top 20 or so things that come to mind, no matter how small, that bring me joy. I recommend trying it sometime, it's a simple and positive way to reflect. You'll learn more about me as I continue to post. I'm really looking forward to starting this endeavor, and I hope that you'll join me for the ride.
